WWE NXT Review 6/8/10

***Note From Doctor Money*** Last night was the Season 2 Finale and just like after Season 1, I’m going to start posting the Reviews from Season 2 on the blog. I will be posting 1 a day on days I don’t have a regularly scheduled blog (i.e. RAW, SmackDown) to be posted. These are going to appear unedited and just as they did on The John Report. If you want to read what happened on the Season 2 Finale right now, you can do so here

This is the Not So Vintage WWE NXT Review and I am Doctor Money. Team Money is back to break down Season 2 of NXT. Season 1 of NXT was lackluster for the most part, but damn that was some payoff last night on RAW. I am looking forward to Season 2 as I think the cast of Rookies and Pros should make for some good matches. Let’s see what Season 2 has in store for us.

The show opens with a quick video showcasing the damage the Season 1 Rookies did on RAW last night.

We get the opening video, still with that lame song and we go to the ring with Matt Striker. He said that last night the “graduating class” of Season 1 made a “bombastic” impact on RAW. Bombastic hasn’t been used in WWE since they teamed up Bob Holly and Bart Gunn back in 1998. Striker introduces the Season 2 Pros. I love how Michael Cole calls The Miz the “Phil Jackson” on NXT. In case you didn’t know, Phil has won 10 NBA Championship and Miz’s Season 1 Rookie didn’t win a match. That’s not exactly an even comparison. As each Pro comes out they introduce their Rookie. Cody Rhodes seems to be the CM Punk of Season 2. I know I was down on the Laycool/Kaval pairing last week, but it could lead to some great unintentional comedy. I still can’t get over how dumb the Michael McGillicutty name is. We get all 8 Rookie/Pro teams in the ring and Striker tells them that this season only 50% of the vote will be held by the Pros and the other 50% of the vote will be held by the fans. After last night, I think that right should be taken away from all those 7 year old kids with internet access. Striker tells everyone that this season will only be 12 weeks and in 3 weeks the 1st Poll will be revealed and in 6 weeks the 1st elimination will occur. The Season 2 winner will also receive a championship match on PPV. Striker tells us that the Rookies and Pros will see action next. Husky Harris goes over to Striker and says he’s going to rock this joint. This leads to some shoving by the Rookies as we head to commercial.

We come back from commercial and Cole and Josh Mathews discuss what happened last night. Cole says he escaped unscathed like a little bitch and as he scampered off though the crowd he could see little kiddies crying =(.

John Morrison and Eli Cottonwood vs. Zack Ryder and Titus O’Neil

Tag team action starts us off on Season 2 of NXT. Titus barks like a dog. Is that what it takes to be a WWE Superstar these days? The match goes 6 minutes with a commercial thrown in. One match in and I can’t see Eli making it too far. He’s doesn’t seem to have his timing down. He’s 7 feet tall so Vince will probably be the WWE Championship on him by the New Year. Titus looks ok, he could have some potential, but he takes the pin fall here after Morrison hits him with Starship Pain.

Winners- John Morrison and Eli Cottonwood. *

After the match Striker asks Morrison his opinion of Eli. Morrison feels he held his own. It seems this season the Pros will be sitting on the stage during the whole show. The Season 1 Pros were only out for the final few episodes. Striker asks Miz what he thinks of Eli. Miz says he failed because he wasn’t entertained by him at all. Cole calls Miz a Hall of Fame coach.

We get a video package on Miz’s Rookie, Alex Riley. He’s the rich, preppy jock type. He played college football for Boston College and his dad played for the New York Jets.

Cole says we will get to see what happened on RAW last night, it was something that “shook this company’s entire foundation”.

MVP and Percy Watson vs. Cody Rhodes and Husky Harris

Percy also played in the NFL and wrestles in plastic red glasses. The match gets about 8 minutes with a commercial thrown in. Despite being a beefy fellow, Harris can move around the ring. Percy showed some good athleticism, there’s some promise with these 2. This was a decent little tag match that saw Percy pick up the win after hitting the Float Over DDT on Harris. It looks like Harris and Cody won’t be getting along this season.

Winners- MVP and Percy Watson. *3/4

Striker pops in the ring after the match to ask Cody what he thought of his Rookie. Cody says Husky looks like someone in his own family. He does kind of look like Dusty, but says he’s going to mold him into the next breakout star. MVP says Percy is ready for primetime.

Rookie video package time for Michael McGillicutty. He tells us his grandfather is Larry The Ax and his dad is Mr. Perfect and he’s going to continue the Hennig family legacy, despite the shitty name. He’s bringing back ruthless aggression.

The Rookies and the Pros are in the ring as we take a look at what happened on RAW. For those of you that didn’t read my RAW Review, here’s what I wrote about it in my Final Thoughts: “Wow, that was some ending. One of the best segments on WWE TV in a long time. When’s the last time you couldn’t wait to see the next episode of RAW because you were so eager to find out what was going to happen next? The ending of RAW accomplished that. I loved every second of it. I want to know why, and I can’t wait to find out. My only question is, where was Michael Cole during the all the destruction? One would think he’d be a primary target considering the history between him and Bryan. Truly great stuff.”

They aired the entire segment from last night and when it’s over, Striker asks Kaval his thoughts on what happened. He can’t believe but says that’s how you make an impact. Lucky Cannon gets the same question and he calls the cowards, but says they made an impact. Buzz word of the day is impact. Harris gets the question and says he doesn’t agree with what they did but doesn’t care either because he’s winning NXT. Alex Riley’s turn and he sneezes a few times and says he’s allergic to Striker. Percy says what they did last night was inappropriate. You gotta fight that man one on one. Eli says Cena deserved everything he got. Titus says he’s like to see Season 1 try that with them. McGillicutty says that Season 1 made an impact and that, well he didn’t get to finish his thought as Striker cuts him off. Striker welcomes all the Rookies to WWE and the Pros proceed to beat the hell out of the Rookies. Cole says it was done to keep these Rookies from a possible mutiny as NXT goes off the air.

Final Thoughts

This was a decent show tonight. We got a couple of tag team matches and got to meet a couple of the other Rookies that didn’t have matches in video packages. My main problem with NXT is Matt Striker and when he interviews all the Rookies. It just takes way too long. Ask each guy something different through the course of the night, just don’t ask them the same thing all at once. It gets repetitive and he ends up cutting these guys off, which annoys me to no end. The ending of the show was interesting. The Pros beat up the Rookies to keep them from potentially pulling what the Season 1 guys did. What happened on RAW took up a lot of time this week, so I expect more time devoted to the new Rookies next week. If they follow tonight’s format going forward, Season 2 will be real good. The 6/8 Season 2 Premier of NXT gets a 5.5/10.

As always, it’s social network plugging time.
